Our Experience Moving to Lyons

We had planned our retirement for several years, and one concern we had was meeting people and establishing a social circle at the new site without the benefit of job connections or making contacts based on children’s activities. Shortly after relocating from Missouri to our home in Lyons, a neighbor invited two couples who had recently moved to the area over for dinner. This wonderful initial gesture has developed into a monthly rotating dinner group that has lasted 18 months, and has provided a great introduction to Lyons. In addition, one of us visited Jul Swann’s local hair styling salon, and through that connection we have been introduced to the crowd at The Stone Cup, and have made a growing group of residents with similar interests. We are now participating in a 3-weekly walking group, a bridge group, the Garden Club, working at the Good Old Days, we’ve run in the Lyons 5K, and several other outdoor activities which we greatly enjoy. Within one year of moving here, one of us has joined local community government as a member of the Planning and Community development Commission, leading naturally to even more connections. Overall, we have found Lyons to be a very welcoming place and the isolation concerns we had were totally unfounded, at least for this lovely little town. Thanks so much. Steve and Sue Wratten
